Study of Prophecy-Book of Daniel Article Three

The Interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar, Dream

In the previous article (Article Two) we reviewed Chapter One of Daniel and Chapter Two through verse 37 in which Daniel went before the King and revealed to him what he had dreamed. In this article (Article Three) we pick up with Chapter two verse thirty-seven where Daniel begins to give to Nebuchadnezzar the interpretation of his dream. This dream outlined the major empires and the order in which they would rise and fall beginning with Nebuchadnezzar’s Empire and continuing through the millennium reign of Jesus Christ upon this earth. All these empires outlined herein have risen and fallen in the exact order as prophesied in the Book of Daniel, therefore, who are we to question those which are yet to come, for they will indeed come to pass.

Da 2:37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

Da 2:38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

Da 2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

Da 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

Da 2:41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

Da 2:42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

Da 2:43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

In verse thirty seven and thirty-eight Daniel reveals to Nebuchadnezzar that he is indeed the king which was represented by the “head of gold”. We know from our study of secular history that indeed Babylon actually existed and King Nebuchadnezzar likewise ruled over that vast kingdom. Daniel further reveals to King Nebuchadnezzar that his kingdom shall not always endure because there will arise a second kingdom which is represented by the “breast and arms of silver”, which is the Medo-Persian Kingdom. We know from secular history that indeed this empire existed and was conquered by the Grecians under the able leadership of Alexander-The Great which is represented in the image by the “belly and thighs of brass”. The Grecian Kingdom gave way to the mighty Roman Empire represented in the Nebuchadnezzar’s dream as the “legs of iron”. Again through secular history we know that this is the exact sequence in which these kingdoms rose and fell.

There will yet be another empire to arise in the future and we see it rapidly coming together in Europe today. We can actually follow its development daily through news media. This kingdom, which is even now, well under way will be known as the “Revived Roman Empire”. It is represented in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream as the “feet, part of iron and part of clay” and over this revived kingdom will the Anti- Christ rule. This kingdom will exist only seven year but great tribulation shall come upon the entire world under the rule of the Anti-Christ just preceding the return of Jesus Christ.

Da 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

Da 2:45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

Jesus Christ shall return to the earth and set up His One Thousand Year Rule otherwise known as the Millennial Reign upon the earth. This shall be the final but an eternal Kingdom. All of those who are so concerned about “separation of church and state” today, if they are still around will certainly have to have to modify their thinking.

At any rate, the “stone” which was “…cut out of the mountain without hands…”, as noted in verse 45, will be none other than the Lord Jesus Christ only now He shall no longer be thought of as the “Lamb” rather He shall be the “Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. He shall rule with an iron hand and to His Kingdom there shall be no end. Daniel ends this verse with a most definitive statement, “…and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure…”

Da 2:46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

Da 2:47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

When Daniel completed the message given to him by the Lord God, Nebuchadnezzar recognized the truth in Daniel’s report and he fell upon his face and actually worshiped Daniel. He recognized Daniel’s God as being “a God of gods”, and “a Lord of Kings” after which he fulfilled his promise to Daniel and promoted him to Chief Governor over all the wise men of Babylon. However, Nebuchadnezzar does not yet appear to recognize God as the one and only God of the Universe.

Da 2:48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

Da 2:49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

Here we see God continuing to fulfill His divine plan by placing Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into key places in the government of King Nebuchadnezzar because their mission had not yet been fulfilled.

There will yet be another empire to arise in the future and we see it rapidly coming together in Europe today. We can actually follow its development through the daily news media and it will be known as the “Revived Roman Empire”. It is represented in the Nebuchadnezzar’s dream as the “feet, part of iron and part of clay” and over this revived kingdom will the Anti- Christ rule. The reign of the Anti-Christ over the revived Roman Empire, the kingdom which is yet future, will last for seven years during which there will be great tribulation throughout the world, after which Jesus Christ shall return to the earth and set up His One Thousand Year Rule upon the earth. This shall be the final but eternal Kingdom. All of those today who are so concerned about “separation of church and state”, if they are still around, will certainly have to have to modify their thinking and there will be no voting on such issues. The modern day politician will have no part in this Kingdom. The news media will not intimidate this Supreme Ruler. The feminist movement will cease to exist and there will be no further abortions. I would venture to say that things are going to change rapidly and no man will stand in His way, influence Him or stop Him and a shocked world shall bow the knee before Him and call Him “Lord”. “What a day that will be, when My Lord I shall see.” Praise the Name of Jesus!

Jesus Christ will no longer be recognized as the lowly lamb but He will be recognized as the “King of Kings and Lord of lords. He will move swiftly to set up His Kingdom and there will be no Republicans, Democrats or Independents to block Him. He will have no need of a “Supreme Court as He himself shall rule Supremely. There will be no corruption in His Kingdom and “the government shall be upon His shoulders”. Then and only then will peace be achieved upon this earth.

At any rate, the “stone” which was “…cut out of the mountain without hands…”, as noted in verse forty -five, will be none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, only now He shall no longer be thought of as the “Lamb” rather He shall be the “Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. He shall rule with an iron hand and to His Kingdom there shall be no end. Daniel ends this verse with a most definitive statement, “…and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure…”

Here we see where God continues to fulfill His divine plan by placing Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into key places in the government of King Nebuchadnezzar because their mission had not yet been completely fulfilled.

In our next article we will begin with Chapter three.

The best is yet to come. Stay tuned!
